The Challenge
Earthbound Expeditions is a family-owned travel company based in Bainbridge Island, Washington, with more than 25 years of experience designing highly personalized travel experiences. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, collaboration was largely office-centric, supported by traditional file sharing and in-person coordination. This model became a limiting factor when remote work suddenly became essential.
The organization needed to rapidly modernize its collaboration approach to ensure business continuity, enable remote work, and maintain the high level of service its guests expect. The challenge was to introduce new tools without disrupting daily operations, while providing a simple and effective way for a small, close-knit team to collaborate from anywhere.
The Approach
Devoto Studio supported Earthbound Expeditions in transitioning to Microsoft 365, with a focus on enabling remote collaboration through a SharePoint-based intranet. SharePoint Online was implemented as a central hub for internal communication, document management, and shared resources, providing a single source of truth accessible from any location.
The solution enabled secure file sharing, real-time co-authoring, and seamless collaboration across the team. Microsoft Teams and Office applications were integrated to support virtual meetings and daily coordination, allowing staff to continue working together as if they were in the same office. The intranet structure was designed to be intuitive and lightweight, aligning with the company’s size and operational needs.
The Outcome
The transition to Office 365 and SharePoint enabled Earthbound Expeditions to operate effectively in a fully remote environment. Team members can now collaborate seamlessly from any location, share and edit documents in real time, and respond efficiently to guest needs around the world.
Beyond addressing the immediate challenges introduced by the pandemic, the new collaboration platform positioned Earthbound Expeditions for long-term flexibility and growth.
